This is the High Season, so expect more crowds and higher prices.

When is the Optimal Time to Chill on Sayulita’s Beaches?

A superb time to visit Sayulita for a relaxing beach getaway is from November through May, when calm seas stay around 75–80°F (24–27°C) and humidity is low.

Warm, sunny days with little rainfall make it ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and exploring the coast’s many beaches .

When is the Choice Time to Party in Sayulita?

Nightlife here stays lively all year ↗️from beachfront bars to late-night salsa spots. The biggest celebrations light up the town during Sayulita cultural events  such as Christmas Week, New Year’s Eve, Semana Santa (Holy Week), and Spring Break.

When Does the Village See Peak Crowds?

Sayulita is at its busiest between Christmas and New Year’s, during Semana Santa, and for major celebrations like Día de los Muertos .

These celebrations draw the biggest crowds for good reason — they’re unforgettable.

When is the Low Season in Nayarit’s Surf Village?

From late May through October is the low season, marked by warm, humid days and afternoon tropical showers. Yet there are still over nine hours of sunshine most days (average highs near 83°F / 28°C).

With fewer crowds, lower hotel rates↗️, and a relaxed local rhythm, this is also the premier season for surfing — when larger swells and stronger waves roll in.

When is a Good Time for Exploring the Jungle?

For jungle hikes , the rainy season (June–October) brings lush foliage and waterfalls, though trails can be muddy. The rainforest bursts alive in these months, vibrant and breathing with sound.

Others prefer to visit the jungle during the dry season (November through May), when the weather is sunny — making for great hiking and exploring. If you visit early in the dry season, the jungle will still be lush.

Amari’s Tip: Many of us prefer to explore the jungles from November through January when the greenery is still beautiful and the trails are more accessible.

When are the Best Months for Sayulita Sportfishing?

Fishing is excellent fishing year-round↗️.  Local waters teem with life — Snook, Roosterfish, Snapper, Mahi, Sierra, Tuna, and Bonita — plus gamefish like Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, and Sailfish.

Many alternative means of angling are available: surfcasting, from a panga, or professional charters.

For answers to all your fishing questions, please see our blog Sportfishing .

When is the Prime Surfing in Sayulita?

Summer brings powerful swells, while winter offers smaller, steadier waves.

For more detailed surf information, explore Sayulita’s Best Surf Spots .

Amari’s Tips:
Our finest surfing season is generally agreed to be summer. During the winter months, beginners will feel more comfortable with smaller, gentler waves.

The stronger summer surf results from favorable swell directions and the added boost of hurricane season, producing fast sets and waves that can reach double overhead — or even higher. However, even beginners can find suitable spots to enjoy the waves year-round.

Here’s a general breakdown:

Winter (December–April)

– Smaller, more consistent waves ideal for beginners, driven by predominant N–NW swells. Average temperatures hover around 74°F / 23°C with dry skies and long, sunny days.

Spring / Early Summer (May–June)

– Wave size begins to increase, creating a mix of beginner and intermediate conditions as S swells strengthen. Temperatures climb to about 78°F / 25°C, and the first light rains bring a blend of swells.

A clean, well-shaped shoulder pitches into a smooth curling wave—the kind of glassy morning swell surfers love for fast lines and smooth carving turns.

Surf Lessons on Gentle Winter Waves

(July–September)

– The prime surfing season, with larger, more powerful waves and the warmest weather (~83°F / 28°C). Expect peak rainfall of 11–14 in (300–350 mm), but long stretches of clear, surfable mornings.

Fall (October–November)

– Conditions remain favorable with lighter crowds and moderate swells. Occasional storms may influence wave quality, but these transition months average 79–81°F / 26–27°C and bring beautiful post-rain clarity to the coast.

When are the Best Months for Whale Watching?

Humpback songs fill the ocean as whales breach offshore. The best whale-watching season runs from December to March↗️, when migrating whales travel along the coast and sightings are frequent.

Mid-season — January and February — often brings the most activity, with calm mornings offering clear views of tails, fins, and occasional breaches.

For an even better experience, consider joining a Whale Watching Tour.

When is the Best Time to Observe Sea Turtles Hatching?

Plan your trip between June and November, when warm summer nights bring new life to the shoreline.

With evening temperatures around 78–83°F / 25–28°C and beaches glistening after gentle rains, this is when you’re most likely to witness the unforgettable sight of tiny hatchlings making their first dash toward the ocean — a quiet, moving moment travelers remember long after their visit.

For a Good Deal When is it Best to Vacation in Sayulita?

May and October are known as  Sayulita’s Shoulder Season↗️ — those golden in-between months when the village slows down and locals savor the calm.

The weather is warm and inviting, rains are brief, and the beaches feel peaceful again. With lower rates, fewer visitors, and most restaurants and shops still open, it’s one of the most relaxed and rewarding times to visit.
