Amari is more than an elegant hotel in Sayulita — it is a sanctuary for the soul. A place where guests slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience genuine hospitality infused with the vibrant culture and creative energy of this seaside village.

Our name, Amari, is a poetic union of two Spanish words: Mar (the ocean) and Amar (to love). This love — for the sea, the land, and meaningful human connection — is present in everything we do.

At the heart of Amari stands the original garden and old-style Mexican villa — the “soul mother” of our sanctuary — gently evolving into a curving, feminine embrace around our center. Here, we blend the yin and yang of traditional and modern, earthy and elevated, relaxed and refined.

This spirit of peaceful growth radiates from our beloved mango tree, Mama Mango — guardian of the garden and a living reminder of when the North Side of Sayulita was once a mango grove. Beneath her shade, tropical foliage, a cascading waterfall, and tranquil pond flourish, nurtured in harmony with nature. Today, the North Side remains one of the most serene and sought-after areas of Sayulita.

Winding through this landscape, the Garden Path invites a deeper journey — revealing layers of rare plants, vibrant flowers, and the soothing presence of our cascading fountain, La Fuente Llorando. Guests often describe it as a miniature jungle hike within an intimate sanctuary — an experience that awakens the senses and quiets the mind.

Sustainability is woven into Amari’s foundation. We recycle water and reclaim wood from naturally fallen Guanacaste trees, kiln-drying it on-site and handcrafting it with local artisans into our arched Parota doors, windows, furniture, and cabinetry. Every element tells a story of respect for land, craft, and community.

Our visual identity reflects Sayulita’s vibrant spirit and natural beauty. The Amari logo features a wave in the form of a nautilus shell, symbolizing shelter, oceanic rhythm, and nature’s elegant geometry.

The chambered nautilus — one of the oldest surviving ocean creatures — represents growth, balance, renewal, and order within change. As it grows, it expands only as needed, in perfect proportion. Its shell holds the story of past chambers while creating space for future expansion — much like the human journey.

Our color palette draws inspiration from jungle greens, ocean blues, and warm earth tones — capturing the harmony between land, sea, and sky.

Amari’s design is deeply influenced by our natural surroundings and the cultural heritage of Sayulita. Created by an Italian craftsman, the property reflects a harmonious blend of tradition, artistry, and environmental consciousness. Every structure, texture, and material is chosen with intention — honoring the land, the sea, and the timeless building traditions that define this vibrant coastal community.

By weaving together natural stone, handcrafted Palapa roofs, locally sourced Parota wood, and softly curved polished white walls, Amari becomes not simply a place to stay, but a living expression of its environment.

Sanded Dorado Tepeji Marble Floors

While natural stone floors are common in Sayulita, our sanded Dorado Tepeji marble is a caliber above — formed over millions of years and rich with distinct patterns and textures. This exceptional stone flooring offers exceptional durability, are ecologically sound, and embody our respect for natural materials. Cool underfoot and visually grounding, they create a subtle yet powerful connection to the earth.

Palapa Roofs

Palapas — traditional thatched roofs made from palm — are a signature of Sayulita’s architectural heritage. Ours are handmade using only Guayabillo heartwood, harvested at full moon in accordance with local tradition, rendering the material stronger and longer-lasting. These structures provide natural cooling, shade, and protection, while evoking rustic charm, tropical elegance, and reverence for ancestral building techniques.

Elements of Nature

Amari’s architecture embraces open-air spaces, abundant gardens, and generous natural light. By blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, the design fosters a seamless relationship with nature — creating an atmosphere of harmony, flow, and tranquility.

Parota Wood

Parota wood, prized for its strength, durability, and rich grain, is used throughout Amari for doors and windows. This indigenous species adds warmth and character while reflecting our commitment to sustainable forestry. Our Parota comes almost exclusively from trees felled by Hurricane Lydia — reclaimed, recycled, kiln-dried on-site, milled into lumber, and handcrafted by our team in the local tradition. Every piece is touched only by our hands.

Curved Polished White Walls

Many of Amari’s walls are gently curved and finished not with simple paint, but with seven layers of polished stucco that create depth, warmth, and softness. Reminiscent of Pueblo Blanco architecture found throughout Mexico, these flowing forms echo the contours of the surrounding landscape. The sealed white stucco reflects sunlight, naturally cooling interiors and enhancing the sense of calm.
